Eponibog Marie-Ange, a young Cameroonian woman, has been struggling for over a year to obtain comprehensive medical care and compensation after being injured in a road accident involving a vehicle belonging to CAMTEL, Cameroon's telecommunications operator. The accident, which occurred on February 21, 2024, in Yaoundé, left Marie-Ange with serious injuries and a life marked by fear and uncertainty.
According to Marie-Ange, CAMTEL provided her with a medical coverage certificate after the accident, but this document did not cover all the necessary expenses, including essential medicines, medical equipment, and certain examinations. Her family claims to have spent over 1.5 million CFA francs, an amount that has not yet been reimbursed.
Marie-Ange turned to NSIA Assurances, CAMTEL's insurer, for answers, but she claims that missing documents from CAMTEL are hindering the processing of her case. Despite her efforts to provide the requested documents, she says that no progress has been made, leaving her in an unbearable state of limbo.
Marie-Ange's health has deteriorated during this long administrative battle. She suffers from significant and recurrent bleeding from her ears, nose, eyes, and mouth, leaving her physically and mentally exhausted. Health professionals emphasize the need for urgent and regular medical care.
Frustrated by missed appointments and broken promises, Marie-Ange has publicly questioned CAMTEL's commitment to helping her. She insists that she is not seeking charity, but rather what she considers her right: reimbursement of her medical expenses and fair compensation for the suffering she has endured. She claims to be in possession of all the necessary documents to support her claim.
As Marie-Ange continues to fight for her health and her rights, her story highlights the challenges faced by road accident victims in Cameroon in obtaining adequate medical care and fair compensation. Whether CAMTEL will step in to provide the necessary assistance remains an open question.
