The Mfandena gymnasium in Yaoundé was the scene of a show of force for Cameroonian judo during the Kimono d'Or 2026. The event brought together more than 590 young judokas aged 6 to 14, attracting nearly 3,000 spectators. This competition, organized by the Cameroonian Judo Federation (Feacajudo), not only exceeded expectations in terms of participation, but also confirmed the good health of the discipline in Cameroon and the assurance of a promising future.
The competition day started early and lasted until midnight, transforming the gymnasium into a real celebration of judo. The president of Feacajudo, Alain Christian Kingue Dihang, expressed his satisfaction with the success of the event, highlighting the considerable logistical challenges associated with organizing a competition of this scale. Managing nearly 600 young competitors, coordinating coaches and officials, and maintaining a smooth program throughout the day required rigorous organization.
Beyond the numbers, it was the quality and commitment of the young judokas that stood out. Children aged 6 to 14 showed remarkable endurance, fighting with technique and intensity throughout the day. This performance demonstrates the rooting of judo at the grassroots level in Cameroon, with hundreds of clubs represented and a solid training pyramid.
The Kimono d'Or 2026 represents an important step for Feacajudo, which is now turning to the African championships in Nairobi. A Cameroonian delegation has already participated in the Dakar International Open in preparation for this continental event. The objective is clear: not only to organize quality sporting events, but also to bring back medals and raise Cameroonian judo to the top of the African scene. The Kimono d'Or has demonstrated that grassroots sport in Cameroon can thrive and attract crowds, provided that rigorous organization and a clear vision are put in place.
