A man identified as Matike was fatally stabbed in a bar in the Borne 10 Odza neighborhood of Yaounde on May 5. According to sources, the victim was returning from a soccer match and had stopped at a bar for a drink. It was then that a waitress, for reasons still unknown, allegedly stabbed him to death.
Mr. Matike reportedly tried to flee but collapsed after a few meters. He died shortly after.
The police, alerted, intervened and apprehended the suspect, who is now in the hands of the gendarmerie. An investigation has been opened to clarify the exact circumstances of this tragedy.
This murder comes in a context where crime remains a major concern in the city of Yaounde. In December 2024, a young man was fatally stabbed at the opening ceremony of the Yaounde International Fair (YAFFE). In January 2026, a man was arrested in Yaounde for the murder of his mother-in-law.
Investigations are continuing to determine the exact causes of the attack on Mr. Matike. The outcome of these investigations will determine the motivations of the waitress and consider the legal action to be taken in this case.
