Abia, who comes from the Bafia district in Anguissa, highlights his personal experience of precariousness to justify his commitment. He emphasizes the importance of recognizing and valuing the diversity of ethnic, linguistic, and religious communities present in Yaoundé. His project aims to grant some autonomy to each community for the management of its internal affairs, while ensuring fair representation in municipal decision-making bodies.
The PCRN candidate criticizes the current electoral system, which he considers limiting for the representation of minorities. He proposes a reform to guarantee fairer community representation and encourage citizen participation in the planning and management of local projects.
Hector Abia's priorities for Yaoundé IV include access to decent housing, free and quality basic education, and access to trade for all, without discrimination. He also wants to improve access to basic infrastructure such as water, electricity, and roads. Yaoundé IV, one of Yaoundé's seven communes, faces specific challenges related to its informal economy and the precariousness of certain neighborhoods. In December 2024, the Divisional Officer for Yaoundé IV ordered the closure of numerous illegal churches, highlighting law enforcement issues in the region.
The commune faces problems with the inadequacy of the water supply network and the lack of school, health and road infrastructure. Despite initiatives by the State, private individuals and residents to improve living conditions, the situation remains precarious. In 2020, Yaoundé IV adopted a municipal action plan to promote access to sustainable energy and climate, demonstrating a commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving access to energy.
Hector Abia proposes a vision of Yaoundé as a united, inclusive and prosperous city, calling for a better future for all to be built together. His commitment is part of a context in which the participation of young people in local development is recognized as essential. The 2026 municipal elections will offer Yaoundé IV voters the opportunity to choose between this vision and other approaches to address the commune's challenges.
