The Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, paid a working visit to Douala this Friday to assess the progress of maintenance work on National Road 3, the highway linking Yaounde to Douala.
Departing from Yaounde, the Minister first visited Tradex Ahala, where he was greeted by the team in charge of carrying out the improvement maintenance work on this major road. This work is being carried out by CFHEC, assisted by PRISMA.
In its initial phase, the work mainly consists of treating potholes along the entire route, with the aim of rapidly improving traffic conditions on this busy road. The work includes patching road damage, laying asphalt on the most damaged sections, mechanized cleaning of the road and shoulders, and road maintenance work using the HIMO (High Intensity of Labor) approach, involving local residents. The refurbishment of existing road signs is also planned.
To speed up the progress of the project, teams have been deployed simultaneously from Yaounde and Douala, working on two fronts. To date, the company has treated approximately 82.40 kilometers of the 241-kilometer route, representing nearly 1,060 m² of repaired surface.
The Minister's visit was scheduled to continue to kilometer point 63, where he planned to assess the start of work to sustainably improve traffic flow on National Road 3, considered one of the country's most strategic roads. National Road 3, the Yaounde-Douala highway, is essential to the Cameroonian economy, linking the political capital to the country's economic heart. Rehabilitation projects are underway on this route, such as the rehabilitation of National Road #3, East entrance of Douala Phase 2, which includes the construction of a new bridge and a 2 x 2 lane urban expressway. These improvements aim to facilitate the crossing of the Dibamba River and modernize the road infrastructure.
