The city of Yaounde is currently experiencing traffic disruptions in the 6th arrondissement due to road rehabilitation work. The Mayor of the city issued a statement on March 26, 2026, informing residents and road users of the temporary inconveniences caused by this construction site.
The work is focused on the strategic section connecting the Mvog Betsi intersection to the MEEC intersection. The main objective is to sustainably improve the condition of the road surface on this busy axis. To minimize the impact on traffic, an alternating traffic system has been put in place for the duration of the work.
The interventions are taking place in two phases, first affecting one main lane and then the second. This approach maintains reduced traffic flow while ensuring the safety of teams on the ground. Municipal authorities are calling for caution and strict adherence to the instructions given by the company in charge of the work.
Compliance with the instructions is essential to avoid incidents and ensure the smooth running of the project. The collaboration of all road users is therefore requested to facilitate these improvement works. This work is part of a larger program to rehabilitate the Cameroonian road network, a national priority reaffirmed by President Paul Biya.
Indeed, the Cameroonian government has launched a special program to rehabilitate deteriorated roads, which also includes the construction of new infrastructure. The aim is to improve urban and interurban mobility, as well as access to production areas. The degradation of the Cameroonian road network is a major concern, with around 75% of roads considered to be in poor condition.
