The Yaoundé 5 district municipality highlighted its record on youth employment during the celebrations of the 41st anniversary of the Cameroon People's Democratic Rally (CPDR). Mayor Augustin Bala, also president of the CPDR section of Mfoundi 5, announced that more than 250 young people have been recruited to the town hall since 2020.
This event took place on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, the anniversary of the ruling party, under the national theme: "Let us prepare to further consolidate the strength and place of the party behind the national president". At the Kanina small sports gymnasium, Augustin Bala reaffirmed Yaoundé 5's support for President Paul Biya, particularly in the upcoming institutional and constitutional reforms.
Addressing activists and supporters, the mayor recalled the importance of the circular of March 11, 2026 from the Secretary General of the Central Committee, Jean Nkuete, which insists on taking into account young people and women, considered to be a decisive electorate. He called on young people and women to "redouble their vigilance and agility to block the road to the opposition".
In addition to direct recruitment at the town hall, Augustin Bala stressed that "more than four hundred young people" are employed as part of the special sanitation plan financed by the President of the Republic. These employees come from all ten regions of Cameroon, he said.
The commune of Yaoundé 5, located in the Mfoundi department, is one of the seven district municipalities of the city of Yaoundé. In 2024, its population was estimated at over 458,000. In addition to employment initiatives, Yaoundé faces rapid urbanization challenges, particularly in terms of infrastructure and mobility.
The municipality's recruitment efforts aim both to combat unemployment and to galvanize the population to vote for the CPDR in the next elections, according to Augustin Bala. The emphasis on youth employment is part of a broader strategy by the ruling party to consolidate its electoral base. The municipality continues to implement initiatives to improve the living conditions of its inhabitants.
