Cameroon's Minister of Decentralization and Local Development (MINDDEVEL), Georges Elanga Obam, received a delegation from the World Bank led by Ashley Taylor on March 3, 2026. This meeting marks an important step in strengthening cooperation between MINDDEVEL and the international financial institution.
The core of the discussions focused on the drafting of decree projects currently being finalized. Both parties explored the technical and financial support mechanisms essential for their effective implementation. The assessment of the progress of the texts allowed for an examination of the prospects related to the application of reforms undertaken as part of the decentralization process.
The main objective of this collaboration is to ensure a more equitable distribution of resources to the Decentralized Territorial Collectivities (CTD), while guaranteeing more efficient and transparent management. This approach reflects a desire to sustainably improve the living conditions of local populations and strengthen local governance.
Georges Elanga Obam emphasized the importance of this support for achieving local development goals. "We are determined to implement these reforms with the support of the World Bank, in order to guarantee a harmonious and inclusive development of our territories," he declared.
At the end of the meeting, MINDDEVEL and the World Bank reaffirmed their commitment to continue close and constructive collaboration. This synergy should produce concrete results, thus contributing to the sustainable improvement of living conditions for the population and the strengthening of local governance. The World Bank has already mobilized significant funds to support Cameroon's decentralization policy. A credit agreement was signed in November 2023 to finance the Local Governance and Resilient Communities Project (Prolog).
The World Bank also supports initiatives to improve public financial management, promote inclusiveness, and support the development of sustainable infrastructure. These actions are essential to enable Cameroon to achieve its goal of becoming an upper middle-income country by 2035.
