Kosovar striker Vedat Muriqi has expressed his emotion after receiving a congratulatory message from Cameroonian football legend Samuel Eto'o. This follows Muriqi's record-breaking achievement at RCD Mallorca in La Liga, where he surpassed Eto'o to become the club's all-time top scorer in the competition.

"I didn't expect it. First of all, thank you very much, especially coming from a true legend like Samuel Eto'o," Muriqi said, visibly touched by the gesture. Acknowledging Eto'o's impact at Mallorca, he added, "I know he did a tremendous job here, and everyone knows the career he had afterwards. I sincerely thank him for taking the time to send me this video".

The Kosovar made history by scoring his 55th La Liga goal for Mallorca, surpassing Eto'o's previous record of 54 goals. Eto'o, who played for Mallorca early in his career, had held the record for over two decades. Muriqi expressed his gratitude to his teammates, fans, and family, emphasizing that the success was a collective effort.

In his video message, Eto'o congratulated Muriqi on his accomplishment, recognizing the hard work required to reach such a level. "Vedat, greetings from Cameroon. I want to congratulate you. I'm happy for what you've achieved. I know it took a lot, a lot of work. But I want you to continue, enjoy yourself and make our RCD Mallorca even greater," Eto'o stated.

Muriqi joined Mallorca in January 2022, initially on loan from Lazio, before signing a permanent contract in July of the same year. He quickly won the hearts of the fans with his performances and important goals. With 21 goals scored this season, he is currently ranked as the second-highest scorer in La Liga, behind Kylian Mbappé.

The Kosovar striker reflected on his journey, stating, "If I had been told 15 years ago that Samuel Eto'o would send me a video, I would have said it was impossible".

The club celebrated Muriqi's record by displaying his boots at the San Moix museum. A fitting tribute to the player who has become Mallorca's top scorer in La Liga, surpassing a legend of African football.
