The National Union of Cameroonian Footballers (SYNAFOC) has stepped up to address the issue of unpaid salaries at the Yaoundé-based club, Fauve Azur Elite. As players awaited their dues, the union claims to have played a key role in unlocking a portion of the funds, while also deploring the club's communication on the matter.
"Following its mediation on May 2, 2026, the management of Fauve Azur Elite proceeded as agreed this Tuesday, May 5, 2026, to make a bank transfer for one month of salary arrears to the players, who confirm receipt," SYNAFOC said in a statement. This action follows mediation initiated by the union to find a solution to the crisis.
While SYNAFOC welcomes this progress, it expresses reservations about the way the club has communicated on the subject. The union speaks of a "unfortunate and approximate press release," a sign of some tension between the two parties. However, the organization led by Geremi Njitap, former Indomitable Lion, insists on the need not to exacerbate the situation. "SYNAFOC [...] refuses to give in to controversy and sterile debates," the statement said, favoring a constructive approach to defending the interests of players.
Geremi Njitap and his team say they are satisfied with this provisional outcome, seeing it as proof of the relevance of their action. However, SYNAFOC points out that the situation has not been fully resolved. There are still two months of unpaid salaries to be settled. The union announces that it will remain vigilant with regard to compliance with the payment schedule agreed with the club's management.
In its message, SYNAFOC directly addresses the players of Fauve Azur, praising them for their "sense of responsibility and solidarity." It encourages them to resume work "with professionalism and determination," inviting them to translate the confidence placed in them on the field. A way of remembering that, despite the difficulties, football remains a matter of performance and commitment.
Through this mediation, SYNAFOC is positioning itself as a key player in defending the rights of Cameroonian footballers, working for a peaceful social climate within the clubs.
