Union Sportive de Douala, facing financial difficulties, has established an interim management team during its general assembly on March 29. This new team, called the Provisional Management Committee (CPG), will be led by Timoléon Boukam Wambo, a former club member. Its main mission is to find funds to allow the "Nassara Gamakai" to operate in better conditions.
The CPG is composed of members residing in Cameroon and abroad. Their first challenge is to replenish the club's coffers, which are currently empty. According to Timoléon Boukam, at least 1 million CFA francs must be found each week to cover the team's needs. A sum of 3.057 million CFA francs, including 800,000 in pledged donations, has already been collected during the general assembly, which will help to address the initial emergencies.
Timoléon Boukam said he was pleasantly surprised by the mobilization during the general assembly, highlighting the presence of many people and the sums collected in a relatively short time. He also welcomed the presence of Emmanuel Ngassa Happi, chairman of the club's supreme council of elders.
Ngassa Happi called on Union de Douala members to be aware of their responsibilities and not to abandon the club, considering it as a heritage for past, present and future generations. He urged supporters and sympathizers to remobilize to help Union finish in the top three of its group.
Despite the financial challenges, Union Sportive de Douala aspires to regain its former glory and rise again to the top of Cameroonian football. The team is counting on the support of its fans and former players to overcome this difficult period and achieve its goals. The establishment of this interim management marks an important step in the search for solutions to ensure the club's sustainability.
Union Sportive de Douala is currently playing in the second division. The club has won five Cameroonian league titles, seven Cameroon Cups and one African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1979.
