United Bank for Africa (UBA) Cameroon organized a unique initiative on Saturday, March 28, 2026, in Douala, combining sports activity with community engagement. The quarterly event, known as "Jogging to Bond," designed to strengthen ties between employees, integrated an urban cleanup dimension, transforming a workout session into civic action.
Starting at 7 a.m., UBA's headquarters in Douala was transformed into an open-air training space. Employees, along with their children, participated in a warm-up session led by a professional coach. First aid training, provided by firefighters, followed, preparing participants for the sports walk in an unusual way.
Equipped with gloves and trash bags, participants walked the streets of the Akwa district, picking up litter along the way. According to Fointama Che, UBA Cameroon's Communications Director, this initiative is the bank's contribution to the community's efforts to maintain a clean environment. "We are all citizens of the cities where we live, and we want to do our part," he said.
The initiative was praised by employees. Tessa Fomo, from the corporate department, highlighted the benefits of physical activity and contributing to the cleanliness of the city. Charles Aban, from the Treasury Department, emphasized the friendly aspect of the event and the opportunity to strengthen ties between colleagues. This event, which began in 2007 with the establishment of the local subsidiary, illustrates UBA's commitment to the well-being of its employees and its role as a responsible corporate citizen.
The next edition of "Jogging to Bond" is scheduled for the end of June and will take the form of a multi-sport tournament at the Kimale complex. A major sporting event, bringing together teams representing the agencies, will close the year, with rewards at stake. UBA continues to promote sports, team cohesion and community involvement through its initiatives.
