Cameroon has secured its place in the upcoming Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), thanks to favorable results on the second day of the Union of Central African Football Federations (UNIFFAC) tournament. This qualification comes as the UNIFFAC tournament is in full swing, serving as a qualifying phase for the U17 AFCON.

The competition, taking place from February 16 to 22, pits Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Gabon against each other. The Cameroonian team has demonstrated its determination to secure a place for the U17 AFCON, scheduled to be held in Morocco.

Before the start of the tournament, Cameroonian coach Alioum Saïdou highlighted the challenges encountered while preparing the team, notably the MRI tests that rendered some players ineligible due to their age. Despite these obstacles, Saïdou expressed confidence in the team's ability to win the tournament and qualify for the U17 AFCON.

In their first match, Cameroon largely dominated Gabon (5-1). Cameroon managed to turn the situation around after trailing in the score. The Cameroonian goalscorers were Omar Amir Tsombeng, Arnold Massekon, Stanley Tendiangku, Rony Balliag and Moussa Cherif Abas.

With qualification secured, the young U17 Indomitable Lions are now focusing on their next challenge: the duel against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for the top spot in the UNIFFAC tournament. This match will determine the winner of the tournament and allow the victorious team to assert itself as a rising force in youth football in Central Africa.

The U17 AFCON is a crucial step for these young players, as it offers a platform to showcase their talent and potentially qualify for the FIFA U17 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Qatar.

The UNIFFAC U17 tournament continues to generate interest, offering young talents from the region an opportunity to shine and represent their country on the continental stage. Cameroon's qualification is a testament to the hard work of the players and the technical staff, and promises an exciting participation in the U17 AFCON.
