Cameroonian Gendarmerie has announced the arrest of 22 individuals suspected of being heavily armed robbers operating in the Mifi, Noun, and Hauts-Plateaux departments. The operation, conducted in Baham, led to the dismantling of a gang that had been terrorizing local populations for approximately six months.
The initial arrest occurred following a tip-off regarding the presence of an individual in possession of a firearm. The exploitation of this first suspect led to the identification and arrest of 21 other members of the group. According to the Gendarmerie report, this gang specialized in armed robberies of financial institutions, businesses, and vehicle theft.
In addition to the arrests, law enforcement seized a significant arsenal, including two automatic pistols, a hunting rifle, a pump-action shotgun, as well as ammunition of various calibers (9 mm and 12 mm). A substantial quantity of cannabis, commonly known as "Indian hemp" or "caillou", was also discovered, along with syringes and coins.
Colonel ABBA Saidou, Commander of the Gendarmerie Legion of the West, stated that the suspects, aged between 18 and 25, were active in several cities, including Foumban, Bafoussam, Bamendjou, and Baham. He emphasized the importance of collaboration from the local population in the success of this operation.
The 22 suspects were presented to the press on February 19, 2026, before being placed at the disposal of the justice system. They will have to answer for their actions in court. This operation is part of "Operation Tentacles", an initiative prescribed by the Secretary of State for Defense in charge of the National Gendarmerie.
