Cameroonian midfielder Arthur Avom Ebong, under contract with Lorient until 2027, could be leaving the Breton club during the next transfer window. Despite a one-year contract extension signed in July 2025, interest from English and French clubs could precipitate his departure.

Having arrived at Lorient less than two years ago from the Cameroonian club Fauve Azur Elite, Avom Ebong, aged 22, has quickly risen through the ranks, actively participating in the club's promotion to Ligue 1. His performances even earned him a nomination for the championship's best player award.

According to Africafoot, several clubs are in the running to acquire the midfielder, notably Strasbourg and Sunderland. Sunderland, in particular, seems determined to strengthen its midfield and sees Avom Ebong as a player capable of immediately improving the team. The English club is reportedly ready to make a competitive offer to convince Lorient to part with one of their key assets.

Since the start of the current season, Avom Ebong has featured in six Ligue 1 matches, providing one assist and maintaining a remarkable 83% starting rate. His value is estimated at around €5 million by Transfermarkt.

In July 2025, Lorient announced the extension of Arthur Avom Ebong's contract until 2027, with a salary increase. This new contract was intended to reward the player for his key role in the club's promotion and to ward off suitors.

However, the club's financial situation could change the situation. According to Africafoot, Lorient may consider selling Avom Ebong as early as January to replenish its coffers. Sunderland would then be in pole position to acquire him.

Arthur Avom Ebong's future at Lorient therefore seems uncertain. His talent and potential are attracting interest, and a departure during the next transfer window cannot be ruled out. To be continued…
