André Onana was the hero for Trabzonspor this Sunday in the Turkish Super Lig. The Cameroonian goalkeeper delivered a decisive performance in his team's 2-1 victory away to Gaziantep, in the 23rd round of matches. His six key saves ensured that Trabzonspor took all three points.
Onana proved to be commanding in the air and alert on his line, reassuring his defense during the crucial moments of the match. This game was all the more important, as Trabzonspor was coming off a defeat. Mohamed Bayo's opening goal in the 22nd minute (1-0) sowed seeds of doubt, but Felipe Augusto quickly equalized two minutes later (24th, 1-1). The winning goal was scored by E. Onuachu in the 27th minute, giving Trabzonspor the definitive advantage (2-1).
Despite Gaziantep's attempts to get back into the game, André Onana remained impenetrable, making spectacular saves that frustrated the opposing attackers.
This away victory allows Trabzonspor to consolidate its third place in the Super Lig standings. Onana's performance erased his disappointing showing in the 3-2 derby loss against Fenerbahçe the previous week.
"The most important thing was to win, regardless of who plays well or not. I'm happy that we won as a team," said Onana after the match.
