Stéphane Edzigui, a well-known figure in Cameroonian football and a potential candidate for Fécafoot in 2025, published an apology on his Facebook page on April 14, 2026. He addresses all Cameroonians whom he may have offended by his public statements, as well as Samuel Eto'o, the current president of the federation.
"Dear fellow citizens, it has happened that I have offended you consciously or unconsciously: I offer you my most sincere apologies," he wrote, marking a turnaround after often harsh criticism of Samuel Eto'o's leadership at the head of Fécafoot. Edzigui, who had even drawn up an unflattering assessment of the last leaders of the organization, placing Eto'o in last position, seems to want to ease tensions.
In his message, Edzigui expresses his desire to turn the page and put an end to personal attacks. "I, Stephane Edzigui, ask forgiveness from all those whom I have offended, insulted, despised in Cameroon and elsewhere, through my media or epistolary outings. I ASK FOR FORGIVENESS AND I PUT AN END, AS OF THIS DAY, TO ALL AD HOMINEM ATTACKS AGAINST ALL COMPATRIOTS OR PERSONALITIES WHO WOULD HAVE FELT OFFENDED."
He justifies his approach by a desire for inner peace and reconciliation, emphasizing the importance of forgiveness, especially in this spiritual period. He also calls on his compatriots to do the same, to forgive and restore love in their hearts. "I woke up this morning with the commitment to make peace with everyone and each of you… May he who can forgive me do so for his own peace. May he who cannot yet know that I will respect his time and his silence. My door remains open."
Time will tell if these apologies will be accepted and if they will mark a turning point in the Cameroonian football landscape, often agitated by internal quarrels. Edzigui's gesture comes in a context where Fécafoot and Samuel Eto'o's management are regularly the subject of criticism and controversy.
