The arrival of Franck Haise as coach of Stade Rennais seems to have given a new impetus to Mahamadou Nagida. The Cameroonian left-back, who had little playing time under Habib Beye, has seen his opportunities increase since Haise's arrival.
Previously, Nagida was often a substitute and rarely had the opportunity to show his potential on the field.
February marked a turning point for the young player. He played 21 minutes against RC Lens, and despite his team's defeat, his performance was noted. Haise then put his trust in him by starting him in the following three matches against Paris Saint-Germain, AJ Auxerre and Toulouse FC. Stade Rennais won all three matches, and the fans praised Nagida's performances.
These performances have earned him a nomination for the February's Young Player of the Month award. He is competing with Noah Nartey of Olympique Lyonnais and Kévin Danois of AJ Auxerre. Nartey is considered the favourite after a run of three wins, one defeat and two goals scored.
Mahamadou Nagida, 20 years old, continues to progress and was also included in the team of the week for the 23rd round. Trained at the Brasseries du Cameroun academy, he joined Stade Rennais in 2023 and signed a five-year contract until June 2028. The Breton club even turned down a 5 million euro offer from Besiktas for Nagida, a sign of the confidence placed in his potential.
