Former Cameroonian football star Samuel Eto'o has delivered a strong message to African youth, encouraging them to pursue success through hard work and discipline rather than resorting to harmful practices. During a recent address at Digital B Agency, Eto'o emphasized the importance of work and discipline as the cornerstones of success.
A four-time African Player of the Year award winner, Eto'o insisted that harming others in the pursuit of personal success is unacceptable. "Don't go killing your brothers because a marabout told you that killing your sister will make you successful," he declared, refuting the idea that sacrifices or wrongdoings can lead to lasting achievement. He called on young people not to be swayed by such beliefs and to focus instead on hard work and discipline.
"Success is work, work, discipline, discipline and even more discipline," the former FC Barcelona striker stressed. He cautioned against the illusion that shortcuts or easy solutions can lead to success, pointing out that those who neglect work and discipline ultimately fail.
Eto'o also encouraged young people to have character and stand up for their beliefs. "Have character! I like people who have personality. Don't let anyone walk all over you," he said. He stressed the importance of believing in oneself and not being afraid to speak out, while respecting others.
The former Indomitable Lion further urged young people to use their time and energy to develop their ideas and convince others to invest in them. "Instead, use that time to convince people to invest in your ideas. I always say: an idea is money," he stated.
Samuel Eto'o, regarded as one of the greatest African footballers of all time, built an exceptional career through his talent, hard work and determination. His advice to young Africans is a call to action to build a better future based on positive values and a commitment to excellence. He is currently the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT).
