The President of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto'o Fils, has recently addressed the question of his nickname "Pastor," expressing his views on the motivations behind this name.
Eto'o suggested that this nickname is a way to caricature him and portray his supporters as members of a sect. He shared this reflection during an intervention with Digital B Agency, where he stated, "Why do they call me pastor? I think some wanted to present our way of seeing things as if we were a sect. Why? Because we have values contrary to what they believe".
The former star striker emphasized that he firmly believes in success through hard work and discipline. "I only believe in success through work and discipline. That's perhaps why some wanted to present me as a pastor of a church where there are only people who follow. But I think I am among those who believe the most in democracy. That's why I am convinced of the law. Only the law," Eto'o stated.
Eto'o was elected as the head of FECAFOOT in December 2021. His term has been marked by efforts to bring about change and defend the interests of Cameroonian football. Despite the challenges and criticisms, Eto'o remains determined to advance Cameroonian football, relying on his beliefs in hard work, respect for the law, and democracy.
"Pressure is an opportunity," Eto'o declared, emphasizing his determination to succeed with the Cameroonians.
