For the past two months, the price of Robusta coffee in Cameroon has remained stable, fluctuating between 1200 and 1300 FCFA per kilogram, according to the Système d’information des filières (SIF) of the Office national du cacao et du café (ONCC). This stability follows a period of gradual increases that saw prices rise to between 1600 and 1650 FCFA in early March 2026, even surpassing those of cocoa.
This reversal, where Robusta coffee temporarily outperformed cocoa, was a first in several years. It was attributed to the difficulties the cocoa sector was experiencing at the time. However, this episode lasted only two weeks. By mid-March 2026, cocoa prices had resumed their ascent, approaching the 2000 FCFA mark, while Robusta coffee prices stabilized.
Robusta is the most widely grown coffee variety in Cameroon. During the 2024-2025 season, its production reached 10,377 tons, an increase of 287 tons compared to the previous season, according to the ONCC. The Littoral and West regions account for the majority of this production, representing 71.6% of the volumes marketed.
Cameroon aims to increase its coffee production to 16,000 tons for the 2024-2025 season. The launch of the 2025/2026 coffee campaign in Baditoum demonstrates the government's commitment to supporting local processing, including through a Center of Excellence to improve coffee quality.
Although the Cameroonian coffee sector faces challenges such as climate change and aging plantations, signs of recovery are being observed thanks to improved quality and market diversification. In 2025, Arabica coffee exports quadrupled in value, reaching 3.37 billion FCFA, thanks to increased quality. On May 15, 2026, the price of cocoa was 2184 FCFA/kg CIF and 2122 FCFA/kg FOB.
