Cameroon is expected at the CEMAC Court of Accounts for the renewal of its judges, a crucial step for the financial governance of the region. Alamine Ousmane Mey received Rosario Mbasogo Kung Nguidang, First President of the CEMAC Court of Accounts, on March 3, 2026, in Yaoundé, to discuss this issue. This meeting follows the 16th Conference of Heads of State and Government of CEMAC, held in Bangui on September 10, 2025, and aimed to review the functioning of the sub-regional financial jurisdiction.
The CEMAC Court of Accounts, based in Ndjamena, is the supreme judicial body responsible for controlling the community's finances. Its statutory composition provides for twelve magistrates, two per member state. However, as the next elective general assembly approaches, Cameroon has not yet appointed its judge. This absence of Cameroonian representation could compromise the regularity of the Court's deliberations and the effectiveness of its control missions.
Beyond the renewal of judges, discussions also focused on cooperation between the Court and national governments. The transparency and sound management of community resources depend on the strength of the control bodies. Rosario Mbasogo Kung Nguidang requested the support of the Minister in charge of regional integration in the accomplishment of community tasks and the functioning of the Court.
In a context where regional integration is based on trust and budgetary discipline, the complete renewal of the CEMAC's judicial body is essential. The appointment of the Cameroonian judge represents a test of institutional maturity for the community. By ensuring its representation, Cameroon would contribute to strengthening the transparency and credibility of CEMAC's finances.
