A presidential agreement has given ANGO Mineral Water the green light to exploit a natural mineral water source in Bertoua, in the East Region of Cameroon. This decision places the company under the direct authority of the Head of State and marks a significant step for the Cameroonian agri-food industry.
The Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic (SGPR), Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, officially notified the agreement to the Prime Minister's services, highlighting the "Very High Instructions" of President Paul Biya. This procedure signifies that the ANGO project has been validated at the highest level of the Cameroonian State. The authorization encompasses the exploitation, conditioning, and bottling of water under the ANGO Mineral Water brand. The extraction site is located in Monou 2, in the Bertoua 2nd district, Lom-et-Djérem department.
Several factors explain this government support. The Cameroonian bottled water market is experiencing sustained growth, with urban demand exceeding local supply. The establishment of a production unit in Bertoua aims to rebalance the regional economy, as the East Region is one of the least industrialized in the country despite its significant natural resources. This project aligns with Cameroon's vision of emergence by 2035, which prioritizes agri-food industrialization.
The authorization process for exploiting natural mineral water involves a hydrogeological analysis of the site, an assessment of the quality of the resource, and approval from several technical ministries before reaching the Presidency. The intervention of the SGPR confirms the importance given to this project, considered to be of strategic economic interest. The authorization paves the way for national distribution and sub-regional export prospects, particularly to Central African markets.
ANGO Mineral Water will have to realize its industrial unit in Bertoua 2nd, which implies a significant investment in the construction and equipment of bottling lines. The company anticipates an initial production of 4,000 packs per day. The national market launch will face already well-established competition, with brands such as Source du Pays and regional imports. Differentiation will be achieved through price, certified origin, and logistics. In the longer term, exporting to the Central African Republic, Chad, or Congo represents significant growth potential.
The official inauguration of the factory took place on February 13, 2026. This project represents an investment of 1.7 billion FCFA and aims to provide quality mineral water, complying with health and industrial standards. The arrival of ANGO Mineral Water on the Cameroonian bottled water market marks a new step in the valorization of local resources and the industrial development of the country.
