Cameroonian football observer, Oscar Njiki, has taken a stand to defend Samuel Eto'o against criticism regarding his financial situation. In a post on his Meta page on May 4, Njiki expressed his outrage at those who mock Eto'o, recalling that some of these detractors have benefited from his help in the past.
Njiki emphasizes that the real question is not Eto'o's fortune, but rather the ingratitude of those he has helped. He insists that Samuel Eto'o has embodied solidarity throughout his career, helping sick artists, referees in difficulty, and others in need. "Throughout his career, Eto'o has embodied solidarity: he has rescued sick artists, referees in distress, men and women in difficulty," he wrote.
He highlights the constant temptation of ingratitude, where some prefer to mock the one who falls instead of remembering the help received. Njiki calls for combating this cynicism, because discouraging generous people deprives humanity of essential benefactors.
Njiki acknowledges that it is legitimate to criticize Eto'o's choices in the management of football or his public decisions. However, he believes that attacks on his private life or fortune are unjustified and sterile. He recalls that the dignity of a man is measured by his actions, and that Eto'o has already proven his ability to turn to others.
Oscar Njiki had already pointed out in December 2025 that Samuel Eto'o embodied "the living proof that the State is freewheeling," a way of highlighting his influence and role in Cameroonian society. In February 2026, he also noted that some measure the well-being of Cameroonian football by the yardstick of Eto'o's financial prosperity.
