The Littoral Regional Commission proceeded on February 24, 2026, with the destruction of 2,491 kilograms of cocaine and tramadol seized a few days earlier at Douala International Airport. This spectacular operation highlights the constant efforts of the Cameroonian authorities in the fight against drug trafficking.
The narcotics, intercepted on February 20, 2026, included 1,057 kilograms of cocaine and 1,434 kilograms of tramadol, representing approximately 27 million tablets dosed at 225 milligrams. Before their destruction, an exhaustive inventory was carried out by the members of the commission, and identification tests confirmed the nature of the products.
The destruction took place at the HYSACAM site in Douala, where the narcotics were crushed and then incinerated. The operation, which lasted more than five hours, was supervised by the Governor of the Littoral, Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua.
This record seizure at Douala airport, with an estimated market value of 50 billion CFA francs (approximately $90 million), highlights the importance of Douala as a hub for drug trafficking in Central Africa. Finance Minister Louis Paul Motaze visited the airport after learning of the seizure. He stressed that this operation is part of a series of interventions aimed at protecting the population and strengthening national security.
Since 2016, drug seizures have increased at Douala and Yaoundé-Nsimalen airports, partly due to the deployment of airport anti-trafficking units (CAAT). In July 2025, customs officers in Douala had already seized 200 kg of cocaine hidden in plastic drums from Europe.
The destruction of this large quantity of drugs demonstrates Cameroon's commitment to combating drug trafficking and protecting its population from the dangers of drug use. The Cameroonian government continues to strengthen its control and surveillance measures to combat this scourge.
