Canon Yaoundé triumphed over PWD Bamenda with a score of 3-1 this Sunday, during the 9th day of MTN Elite One, at the Omnisports Stadium in Yaoundé. This victory allows Canon to consolidate its position at the top of the standings and move closer to the qualifying spots.
"The fans were there, they pushed us," said Steve Belobo, Canon's attacking midfielder, emphasizing the importance of the supporters' backing in this success.
The first half ended in a draw, reflecting a balance of power. However, from the restart, Canon took control of the match. Three goals were scored, including a penalty, sealing the outcome of the match. PWD reduced the score to 3-1, but it was too late to hope for a comeback. Canon coach David Pagou was able to energize his team by making effective changes in the second half.
On the Bamenda side, disappointment was palpable. Manga Serge Bengono, PWD's striker, acknowledged: "We reduced the score, but it was too late. Frankly, it's a shame". He also noted that Canon was able to exploit a PWD slack at the start of the second half to create dangerous opportunities.
