The Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC) has publicly challenged an announcement made by journalist Bruno Bidjang regarding the holding of the next legislative and municipal elections in February 2027. Maurice Kamto's party reacted strongly to this publication, calling it premature and unofficial.

According to the MRC, no legal basis has been made public to justify such an electoral calendar. The party points out the absence of a decree extending the mandate of municipal councilors, questioning the source of the information disclosed by Bidjang. The MRC believes that such communication risks causing confusion and short-circuiting the institutions responsible for electoral matters.

In its press release, the MRC recalls that this is not the first time that Bruno Bidjang has anticipated institutional decisions. The party cites the case where the journalist announced the rejection of Maurice Kamto's candidacy for a presidential election even before the decision of ELECAM (Elections Cameroon) and the Constitutional Council. The MRC denounces a method that transforms the function of journalist into a platform for anticipating verdicts, thus short-circuiting independent institutions.

The MRC insists on respecting the role of institutions in setting the electoral calendar. The party calls for rigorous official communication in order to preserve citizens' confidence in the democratic process, in a context where the issue of the next elections is particularly sensitive.

Initially scheduled for 2025, the elections have already been postponed, with a rescheduling announced for early 2026. President Paul Biya justified this postponement by compelling constraints, without specifying their nature.
