The Ministry of External Relations (MINREX) of Cameroon issued a statement on March 1, 2026, expressing its deep concern about the deteriorating security situation in the Near and Middle East. This alert follows an escalation marked by airstrikes and military operations involving several countries in the Arabian Gulf.
MINREX is calling on Cameroonian nationals residing in the affected areas to strictly adhere to the security instructions issued by local authorities. These measures include compliance with alerts, access to shelters, travel restrictions, and any other temporary provisions aimed at ensuring the protection of populations. The ministry insists on the importance of observing these measures "without any exception".
Yaoundé also urges the Cameroonian community to exercise calm and increased vigilance. Maintaining regular contact with Cameroon's diplomatic and consular missions in the region is strongly recommended to facilitate any potential assistance.
To ensure constant monitoring of the situation, a monitoring unit has been set up within MINREX. Cameroon's diplomatic missions and consular posts in the region remain fully operational, including the embassies in Tel Aviv, Riyadh, and Cairo, as well as the consulates in Jeddah and Dubai.
MINREX has set up an emergency telephone line reachable at the following numbers: (+237) 222 20 30 26 / 222 20 30 27 / 696 03 43 94, as well as an emergency e-mail address: diplomcam@gmail.com. This initiative aims to provide rapid and effective assistance to Cameroonians who may find themselves in difficulty in the region.
The situation in the Middle East remains unstable, marked by persistent conflicts and escalating tensions. Recent developments, including airstrikes and military operations, have led to a suspension of flights and major disruptions in maritime transport. Cameroonian nationals are therefore urged to exercise extreme caution and follow the instructions of local authorities to ensure their safety.
Faced with this crisis, the Cameroonian government reaffirms its commitment to protecting its citizens abroad and providing them with all necessary assistance. The establishment of the monitoring unit and the activation of emergency contacts demonstrate this desire to respond effectively to the needs of the Cameroonian community in the Middle East.
