Minkouma Energy Company S.A. has announced a significant increase in its share capital, from 200 million to 1 billion FCFA. This decision, formalized during an extraordinary general meeting on February 24, 2026, marks a crucial step in the financial preparation of an ambitious energy complex in Minkouma, in the Haute-Sanaga region.
While the operation may seem modest given the scale of the project, it demonstrates Minkouma Energy's commitment to strengthening its financial position with its technical partners and potential funders. According to the company, this capital increase reflects increased confidence in the project's vision, its structure and its ability to establish a new standard in the electricity sector in Cameroon.
The Minkouma project, valued at approximately 584 billion FCFA, involves the construction of a hydroelectric dam combined with a solar power plant. The hydroelectric component is expected to generate between 240 and 300 MW, while the solar field will add an estimated capacity of between 50 and 300 MW. The overall aim is to diversify Cameroon's energy mix and secure supplies for a growing economy, particularly in the industrial sector.
The schedule provides for the selection of companies responsible for project management, followed by the signing of construction contracts in June 2026. Financing agreements are expected to be finalized between September and November 2026, with actual work scheduled to begin in December 2026.
In this context, CCA Bank has expressed interest in leading the pool of local banks responsible for financing the project. The bank has expressed its intention to act as lead arranger, with the aim of mobilizing all local financing from a syndicate of national banks.
If financial closure is achieved on schedule, Minkouma could become an effective construction site, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the electricity supply and the industrialization of Cameroon. CCA Bank, established in 1997, aims to play a major role in infrastructure financing in Cameroon. In 2025, it ranked among the country's leading banks in terms of outstanding loans and deposits. The Minkouma project could mark an important step in achieving this goal.
