In a statement released on Monday, March 23, 2026, Maurice Kamto, president of the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC), expressed strong concerns about the future of the African continent. According to him, Africa risks facing a new form of colonization if African leaders do not become aware of current issues and put in place effective defense strategies.
"If the events shaking the world, the treatment reserved for Africa, and the contempt with which leaders and other elites of powerful nations treat Africans do not provoke a surge of awareness in us, then we are lost forever," Maurice Kamto declared on his X account. He thus called for an awakening of consciences in the face of the challenges that lie ahead.
The former Cameroonian presidential candidate emphasized the need for Africa to define clear priorities to ensure its economic and technological development, as well as its security. He insisted on the importance of African unity in the face of external threats, advocating for automatic solidarity between African countries in the event of foreign interference.
Kamto also warned against the speeches of those he calls "charlatans," who, according to him, make superficial speeches about friendship and fraternity, while harboring plans for domination. "Do not listen to the charlatans who trample on your dignity and spit out their reconquest project in public, then come and sing their friendship, even their brotherhood, in the evening, away from prying eyes," he warned.
