The Industrial Zone Development and Management Mission (MAGZI) is intensifying its efforts to recover unpaid rent in Cameroon's industrial zones. A press release dated May 15, 2026, signed by the General Manager of MAGZI, Christol Georges Manon, urges the companies concerned to regularize their financial situation as soon as possible.
The document points the finger at companies that still owe MAGZI significant sums in respect of overdue and unpaid rental charges. These companies are invited to honor their contractual commitments by paying the sums due no later than May 30, 2026.
MAGZI explicitly threatens to terminate lease agreements if companies do not comply with this request. The press release lists 29 companies spread across three industrial centers: 12 in the Bassa area of Douala, 7 in Bonabéri, and 10 in Yaoundé. Among the companies mentioned in Bassa are African Pool, Laboratoire Biopharma, Batimetal, CNCC, Kaffes et Denrées, and Futura Industries. The Bonabéri list includes Solevo, Camtel, Cameroon Alert System, Sanaga Boissons s/l, and Tamso. In Yaoundé, Baticonfort, Camtel, Les Grandes Éditions, Fruitscam, World Distributions, and Yao Pharm are also mentioned.
By making this list public, MAGZI is adopting a transparency strategy to encourage companies to settle their rental debts before the deadline. The press release does not specify the total amount of arrears, the age of the unpaid debts, or the specific procedures for implementing a possible termination of leases.
Despite the lack of detailed figures, MAGZI's message is clear: the companies concerned have until May 30, 2026, to regularize their financial situation, or risk having their lease agreements terminated. In 2018, MAGZI had already issued similar notices to recover 600 million FCFA in rental arrears. In 2023, the amount of arrears was more than 3.2 billion FCFA, prompting MAGZI to consider stricter recovery measures.
