André Onana's mixed performances at Manchester United continue to fuel passionate debates in the football world. Liliane Gatounes, a sports analyst, recently expressed her incomprehension at the Cameroonian goalkeeper's decision to leave Inter Milan and join the Red Devils.
Gatounes shared her thoughts on Mbocky Culture, questioning the relevance of this transfer to the career of the Indomitable Lions' goalkeeper. "I didn't understand why he left Inter to end up in Manchester," she said. "It's a shame, because it spoils what could have been a memorable career for André, who is a bit like Sam, Samuel Eto'o, with a sacred character to manage," added Gatounes. Having arrived at Manchester United in 2023 with the ambition of staying at the highest level, André Onana has seen his rating drop during his two seasons with the English club. Loaned to Trabzonspor in Turkey, the club does not have the financial means to exercise the purchase option set at 45 million euros by Manchester United.
Despite the criticism, Onana, 29, does not seem to have given up on his future at Manchester United. He hopes to fight to regain his number one spot on his return from loan, although competition from Senne Lammens, who has impressed since arriving, makes the task difficult. Manchester United have reportedly informed Trabzonspor that they can acquire Onana permanently for a fee of around 45 million euros, an amount the Turkish club does not seem willing to pay. André Onana's future therefore remains uncertain, torn between the desire to regain his place at Manchester United and the need to find a club where he can revive his career.
