Pope Leo XIV arrived in Cameroon on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, landing at Nsimalen International Airport. This papal visit raises many expectations and hopes within the Cameroonian population. In this context, Cameroonian journalist Pierre Nka addressed an open letter to the Sovereign Pontiff, outlining three major grievances.
Nka expresses the wish that Pope Leo XIV would position himself as a mediator to promote the return of peace throughout Cameroon. He insists on the importance of respecting biculturalism, a legacy of the country's history. Furthermore, he calls on the heads of state to anticipate the post-Biya era, considering the constitutional revision and the function of vice-president as a viaticum for the political future of Cameroon.
Pierre Nka's second grievance concerns the family. He hopes that the Pope will highlight the power and individual responsibility of each spouse in building family happiness. Faced with the many broken lives within Cameroonian couples, he stresses the need to overcome gender stereotypes and recognize the humanity of everyone.
Finally, Pierre Nka calls for the Pope's prayer to touch the hearts of actors in the public space. He encourages them to work for the common good, the general interest and love of neighbor, by promoting healthy competition in all areas, including the recruitment of civil servants, remuneration, elections and consensus-building. He hopes that this papal visit will inspire the promotion of common causes at the family, professional and public levels.
