The city of Douala hosted a karate seminar on May 15, 16 and 17, led by Dutch experts and Cameroonian champion Billy Ossoko. The event took place at the African Academy of Martial Arts, under the leadership of its promoter, Louis Roger Youmbi.
Louis Roger Youmbi emphasized the crucial importance of this type of training, especially for karate teachers. According to him, karate is a perpetual exchange between a master and a student, and meeting with experts can transform the practice and vision of this martial art. He insisted that a teacher who does not participate in these seminars risks seeing his teaching limited.
Youmbi congratulated Billy Ossoko, a Cameroonian living in the Netherlands, for his commitment and perseverance in promoting karate in Cameroon. He also welcomed the presence of Sensei Kos, a world expert and 8th dan in karate, as well as his assistant, former president of the Bar of Holland and 3rd dan. The presence of Billy Ossoko, Benelux champion and 6th dan, was also highlighted.
The African Academy of Martial Arts, created by Louis Roger Youmbi, opened its doors in 2021 in Douala and has become a central hub for martial arts training in sub-Saharan Africa. The academy offers world-class infrastructure for various disciplines such as Kung Fu, MMA, Judo and Taekwondo.
For Louis Roger Youmbi, these seminars are an opportunity to learn and discover new techniques, thus allowing Cameroonian karatekas to improve their practice. The event highlighted the importance of exchange and continuous learning in the world of karate, thus contributing to the development of this martial art in Cameroon.
