Former Indomitable Lions goalkeeper Joseph-Antoine Bell has expressed reservations about André Onana's potential return to Manchester United. This stance follows the Cameroonian goalkeeper's loan move to Trabzonspor in Turkey.

In an interview with AfrikaFoot, Bell emphasized that it was unfair to hold Onana solely responsible for the difficulties encountered by Manchester United. He praised the player's decision to seek playing time in Turkey after realizing he was no longer part of the English club's plans.

"He was right to leave on loan. From the moment he understood that he was not counted on, it was no longer viable," Bell stated, highlighting the benefits of this new beginning, particularly mentally.

Regarding a return to Manchester United, Bell is skeptical: "Even if he wants to come back, I don't think it's the best solution for him". He emphasizes the stability that Onana could find elsewhere and the existing competition for his position at the Red Devils. He notes that if the current first-choice goalkeeper continues to perform well, the coach will not take the risk of destabilizing the team by reigniting competition with Onana.

André Onana, 29, joined Trabzonspor on loan for the 2025-2026 season after a difficult spell at Manchester United, marked by costly errors. Manchester United had recruited Onana in 2023 from Inter Milan for around 51 million euros. Despite an FA Cup victory in 2024, his performance was deemed inconsistent. The club subsequently recruited Senne Lammens, signaling a possible change in the goalkeeping hierarchy. Onana made his debut with Trabzonspor in September 2025. Despite his loan, Onana reportedly wants to return to Manchester United and fight for the number 1 spot. Time will tell if this return materializes, but Joseph-Antoine Bell's opinion adds another perspective to the situation.
