Issa Tchiroma Bakary, President of the National Salvation Front of Cameroon (FSNC) and unsuccessful candidate in the 2025 presidential election, has sent his greetings to the Muslim community of Cameroon, the diaspora, and the world on the occasion of Eid Mubarak 2026.
In his message, Tchiroma praised the steadfastness and tenacity of Muslims during the month of Ramadan, a pillar of Islam. He emphasized their ability to observe this ritual despite daily difficulties, turning away from fleeting things and strengthening their inner commitment.
"Braving the daily difficulties, you have thus observed, in the shadow of the mosques, throughout the national territory, within the diaspora and throughout the world, in your homes, a ritual rich and full of values: voluntarily abstaining to turn away from ephemeral things; refusing the reign of pride, selfishness and greed; strengthening inner commitment and self-control," he declared.
Tchiroma also highlighted the moments of fraternity shared with Christians during Ramadan, coinciding this year with Lent, stressing the importance of inter-community solidarity and tolerance in Cameroon. He noted that prayers were raised in mosques in Cameroon and in Mecca for "the truth of the ballot box to be restored" regarding the presidential election of October 2025, where he still claims victory.
Issa Tchiroma Bakary, born in 1946 or 1949/1950, served as Minister of Employment and Vocational Training from 2019 to 2025 and Minister of Communication from 2009 to 2019 under President Paul Biya. He left the government in 2025 to run in the presidential election.
As Tchiroma seizes the opportunity of Eid to reaffirm his electoral challenge, Paul Biya and his wife distributed food to vulnerable populations in the Far North. Eid el-Fitr, celebrated on March 20, 2026, marks the end of Ramadan and is a time of gathering for millions of faithful across Cameroon.
