Issa Tchiroma, the national president of the Front for the National Salvation of Cameroon (FSNC), published a column this Friday, February 27, 2026, in which he expressed deep concerns about the current situation in Cameroon. He denounces a "descent into the abyss" of the country, marked by an acute economic crisis and a deep governance crisis.
"Very dear Cameroonians of the World, you are following, like me, the descent into the abyss of your country of origin," writes Issa Tchiroma, pointing to accumulated and amplified flaws, particularly on the economic front where, according to him, "all the signals have exceeded the red line". He criticizes the financial management of the State, which he describes as a "chronic bad payer" resorting to incessant loans and selling off the country's strategic resources.
The consequences of this situation are felt daily by the people, with infrastructure delays, lack of access to care, and a persistent energy deficit. Issa Tchiroma also deplores a governance crisis, stating that Cameroon is "confiscated by the trafficking of high instructions" and plagued by a "war of clan leaders" at the top of the State.
The former minister is outraged by what he considers a moral crisis, referring to images of "deviant presidential intimacy" and a "triumphant lightness of morals at the top of the State," which he considers to be a bad example for youth. He also denounces post-election repression, citing disappearances, deaths, mass arrests, and inhumane detention conditions.
Faced with this situation, Issa Tchiroma calls on Cameroonians to "raise their heads in the face of this usurping power" and reaffirms his conviction that a solution exists, that of a "transition program" for which he claims to have received massive support during the presidential election of October 12, 2025. He launches an appeal for generosity to support the victims of repression and the post-election crisis, especially children deprived of resources and people in detention.
Issa Tchiroma, a leading figure in the Cameroonian opposition, claimed victory in the October 2025 presidential election. In February 2026, he was in Gambia, where he has been in exile since November 2025.
