While in exile in Gambia since the post-election unrest of October 2025, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, president of the Cameroon National Salvation Front (FSNC), may soon return to Cameroon. This is according to Joseph Espoir Biyong, an FSNC activist, in a post on his Facebook page on February 25.
Biyong stated that the FSNC was preparing a "historic event": the "triumphal" return of Issa Tchiroma Bakary, whom he calls the "new president of the Republic of Cameroon". He added that this event would take place in peace and serenity, and that "nothing and no one can prevent this evidence". Biyong also claimed that international recognition of Tchiroma Bakary was in progress and would soon be finalized.
According to Biyong, Tchiroma Bakary's return would be part of a context of appeasement, where Cameroon should turn its back on "wickedness". He called for the rejection of revenge, violence and wickedness, and for prayer for reconciliation and unity, adding that "the whole world is accompanying Cameroon towards its happiness".
This is not the first time that Joseph Espoir Biyong has mentioned the imminent return of Issa Tchiroma Bakary. A few weeks ago, he had already made a similar announcement. However, the exact date of this return remains unknown. In exile since the end of October 2025, Issa Tchiroma Bakary left the country after contesting the results of the presidential election on October 12, 2025, which saw the victory of Paul Biya. Tchiroma Bakary still claims victory.
Issa Tchiroma Bakary, former Minister of Transport and Communication, created the FSNC in 2007. In the last presidential election, he surprised everyone by resigning from his position as Minister of Employment to run against Paul Biya. The official results give him second place with 35% of the votes.
