Cameroon's national team coach, David Pagou, has announced his squad for the FIFA Series, a friendly tournament organized by FIFA, set to take place in Australia from March 25 to 31. The list, revealed on March 19 in Yaoundé, includes 26 players, with four coming from the local league.
The selected local players are goalkeeper Housseini Ousmanou (Gazelle FA de Garoua), midfielders Nfanseu Konrad (Panthère Sportive du Ndé) and Maël Fernandez Monyebe (Gazelle FA), and defender Serge Ndzomo Eloundou (AS Fortuna). David Pagou emphasized the importance of scouting local talents and affirmed that the door to the national team remains open to all competitive players.
In addition to the local players, Pagou's list also includes new faces such as Lille striker Angel Yondjo Matah, goalkeeper Blondy Nounkeu, and Saïdou Alioum Moubarak. The coach justified these choices by the desire to strengthen the team and integrate players motivated to help the team.
Several regular members of the Cameroonian national team are absent from this list, including captain Nouhou Tolo, Carlos Baleba, and Christian Bassogog, all of whom were present at the last Africa Cup of Nations. The absences of Vincent Aboubakar and André Onana, who have had issues with the federation, are also notable. Pagou explained that the door to the national team remains open to all competitive players, emphasizing the wide pool of Cameroonian talent.
Cameroon will face Australia on March 27 at the Accor Stadium in Sydney, and China on March 31 at the AAMI Park in Melbourne. The FIFA Series is a competition organized by FIFA to facilitate friendly matches between teams from different confederations, with the aim of supporting football development worldwide. The Indomitable Lions arrived in Sydney on March 23 to begin their preparation. Five players have already joined the training camp, and the rest of the team is expected in the coming days.
