The Indomitable Lions' squad for the March 2026 FIFA Series has been revealed, raising questions due to the absence of two key players: Carlos Baleba and Nouhou Tolo. Coach David Pagou announced the list on March 19, 2026, marking a break with some of the team's usual figures.

The absence of Baleba, a midfielder, and Tolo, a defender, is particularly noted in Cameroonian football circles. Tolo even wore the captain's armband during the 2025 AFCON. Speaking to the press, Pagou justified these choices by expressing his desire to evaluate new talents. "We made choices before the AFCON, and we're making them again now... We're also going to look at other players," he stated.

Pagou's decision comes in a context where he seems to want to breathe a wind of change into the team, sidelining established players like Vincent Aboubakar and André Onana. While bold, this strategy raises questions about the progress and cohesion between the old and new players. Some observers believe that it would be more judicious to maintain a stable team structure while gradually integrating new recruits.

David Pagou has called up 26 players for the friendly matches against Australia and China. The list includes four goalkeepers, ten defenders, eight midfielders, and four forwards. Jackson Tchatchoua's return is also noteworthy. Local players have also been included in the squad.

The Indomitable Lions will participate in the second edition of the FIFA Series tournament, an event initiated by FIFA to offer national teams opportunities to play friendly matches and potentially improve their FIFA ranking. Cameroon will face Australia on March 27 in Sydney, and then China on March 31 in Melbourne. These matches are a continuation of the work undertaken by Pagou since taking office. It remains to be seen whether these bold choices will bear fruit on the field.
