The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) inaugurated its new headquarters on May 13, 2026, in Yaounde, marking a significant milestone in the modernization of Cameroonian football. However, the ceremony was marked by confusion at the highest levels of government regarding the representation of President Paul Biya.

Two conflicting statements were issued by the Presidency of the Republic regarding the person designated to represent the Head of State at this event. Initially, a statement signed by the Minister, Director of the Civil Cabinet (DCC), Samuel Mvondo Ayolo, had designated the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi. Moments later, a second statement, also from the DCC, designated the Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute, to replace Mr. Mouelle Kombi.

This last-minute reversal raised questions, especially since the statement provided no explanation for the change. The incident highlights potential tensions between the Minister of Sports and the President of FECAFOOT, Samuel Eto'o.

The inauguration of FECAFOOT's new headquarters, located in the Warda district of Yaounde, began yesterday with a caravan, a gala match, and a concert at the military stadium. The new building will house administrative offices, conference rooms, and a press center, providing an improved working environment for staff and federation partners.

This project, launched more than ten years ago by former FECAFOOT president Iya Mohamed, had been interrupted several times before being relaunched under the current administration of Samuel Eto'o. The construction of this ultramodern headquarters is considered a symbol of the modernization of Cameroonian football and demonstrates FECAFOOT's desire to professionalize its management and strengthen its influence on the national and international stage.

The presence of prominent figures from Cameroonian football and international guests at the ceremony underscores the importance of this project for the development of football in the country. CAF President Patrice Motsepe is expected to inaugurate the new headquarters.

The incident with the conflicting statements cast a shadow over this major event for Cameroonian football. It remains to be seen whether this situation will have repercussions on the relations between the various stakeholders in football in Cameroon.
