The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) inaugurated its new headquarters this Wednesday, May 13, in Yaounde, marking a significant step in the modernization of Cameroonian football. The event took place in the presence of the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, as well as several prominent figures from the world of African football.
The new headquarters, located in the Warda district, replaces the old building in Tsinga and is presented as a modern infrastructure that meets the current requirements of sports management. According to FECAFOOT officials, it will improve the efficiency and coordination of federal services.
Several activities preceded the inauguration, including a sports march, a gala match, and a giant concert. The actual inauguration ceremony began at 8:00 a.m. with the reception of guests. A caravan also traveled through the streets of Yaounde, departing from FECAFOOT's former headquarters and ending at the military stadium.
The project to construct this new headquarters was initiated more than ten years ago by former FECAFOOT president, Iya Mohamed. It was revived and completed under the presidency of Samuel Eto'o, who made the modernization of the federation's structures one of his priorities. Christian Em, a member of the FECAFOOT COMEX, stressed the importance of recognizing Iya Mohamed's contribution to this project.
The presence of Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA, and Patrice Motsepe, President of CAF, demonstrates the importance of this event for African football. Beyond the architectural aspect, this inauguration is seen as a strong signal of FECAFOOT's desire to turn the page on internal crises and organizational difficulties. This new headquarters is a strategic tool to support Cameroon's sporting ambitions on the continental and international stage.
