The agricultural cooperative Mahol Ma Yondo has officially launched its activities in the Ngambè subdivision, with a clear vision: to transform this rural area of Sanaga-Maritime into a center of excellence for agroecology in Cameroon. Created on February 10, 2025, this initiative brings together about thirty young people from Ngambè and the surrounding villages, all driven by the desire to structure a local dynamic focused on sustainable agricultural practices.
Mahol Ma Yondo intends to capitalize on traditional knowledge and ancestral agricultural practices to promote agroecology in the region. The cooperative primarily targets strategic sectors such as cassava, plantain banana and gnetum, products with high economic and nutritional potential for local and regional markets. Beyond simple production, the cooperative aims to promote local processing of these products, with the prospect of creating a craft cassava processing unit.
This initiative is a direct response to the recommendations from the 2nd edition of the Rural Employability Fair (FER), which was held from December 11 to 13, 2025 in Ngambè. This event brought together around 1,500 participants, including representatives from the 52 villages in the district, all involved in agricultural projects. The FER is thus positioning itself as a multi-stakeholder platform serving the transformation of rural areas, with Ngambè as its starting point.
"Mahol Ma Yondo was born from the collective desire of the young people of Ngambè to build sustainable income-generating activities, capable of creating local employment, encouraging urban exodus and structuring promising agricultural sectors. It is a rural project designed by and for rural communities,” emphasizes Jacques Jonathan Nyemb, business lawyer, elite of Sanaga Maritime and chairman of the board of directors of the cooperative.
In the medium term, the cooperative aims to structure a holistic approach integrating agroecology, fish farming and livestock farming. The initiative is part of a broader dynamic of promoting rural employment and sustainable development in Cameroon, where agriculture represents a key sector for the economy and food security.
