The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group focused on private sector funding, is considering a €21 million (approximately FCFA 13.8 billion) loan to Gozem, an African "super app". The deal, revealed on April 27, 2026, aims to support Gozem's expansion in Benin, Cameroon, Togo, and the Republic of Congo between 2026 and 2028.
Gozem, launched in Togo in 2018, offers a digital platform combining on-demand transportation, delivery, vehicle financing, and mobile payment services through Gozem Money. The IFC plans to provide €8 million in direct funding, an €8 million subordinated loan through IDA21, and mobilize €5 million from other investors.
According to the IFC, this loan will enable Gozem to finance its expansion in the target markets between 2026 and 2028. Gozem positions itself as a "super app," a single platform concept offering various services ranging from transportation to finance. In 2025, the platform claimed approximately one million rides per month in its transport and delivery activities.
Present in Cameroon since 2021, Gozem operates in 16 cities across Togo, Benin, Gabon and Cameroon. The company was co-founded by Gregory Costamagna and Raphaël Dana. In February 2025, Gozem secured $30 million to accelerate its expansion in French-speaking Africa and launch Gozem Money.
In the on-demand transportation sector, Gozem competes with Yango, taxis, and traditional motorcycle taxis. For delivery and payment services, competition extends to telecom operators, fintechs, and digital platforms such as Orange Max it, OPay, and MTN Ayoba. The challenge for Gozem is to consolidate an ecosystem that retains users. The IFC and Gozem previously collaborated in 2022 with $10 million in funding to facilitate access to vehicles for 6,000 motorcycle taxi drivers in Togo and Benin. Gozem claims nearly one million users in West and Central Africa.
