Three individuals have been apprehended in the Northwest region of Cameroon following an attempted kidnapping targeting Hamadou Bi Ibrahim, the recent winner of the 2026 Mount Cameroon Race of Hope.
According to security sources, the incident occurred a few weeks after the athlete's victory. Hamadou Bi Ibrahim, originally from the Northwest region, had won the prestigious Mount Cameroon Race of Hope, a competition recognized for its difficulty and importance in the Cameroonian sporting calendar. His performance marked the 2026 edition of this emblematic race.
The suspects allegedly attempted to attack the champion under circumstances that are still unclear, before being quickly apprehended by security forces. The swift intervention of the authorities prevented the worst.
