The inauguration of FECAFOOT's new headquarters continues to spark passionate reactions. Just hours after Samuel Eto'o's speech, where he paid tribute to Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, Guibaï Gatama expressed a scathing response on social media.
In his address, Samuel Eto'o took care to distinguish between a politician and a statesman, presenting Joseph Dion Ngute as a true statesman. This stance did not fail to provoke a reaction from Guibaï Gatama, known for his regular criticism of the current management of FECAFOOT.
With an ironic tone, the member of the federation's executive committee directly challenged the president of FECAFOOT. "One day, I will also take the time to explain the difference between a serious and honest federation president, a state federation president... and a simple federation president who has money from a national team friendly match transferred into his personal bank account," he wrote on May 13, the day of the inauguration. Gatama also alluded to a payment from the Russian Football Federation into Samuel Eto'o's personal account for a friendly match of the Indomitable Lions.
He concluded his message with a touch of irony: "But everything in its time. Let's first celebrate today the inauguration of this beautiful building of our football. After all, the walls have not yet cashed any transfers".
This media outing by Guibaï Gatama illustrates the persistent tensions within FECAFOOT between Samuel Eto'o and certain members, former or current, of the organization. Other football observers, such as Stéphane Edzigui, have also expressed their disapproval of Samuel Eto'o's speech. Gatama had already challenged Samuel Eto'o's candidacy for the presidency of FECAFOOT in November 2025. In February 2022, Gatama had been suspended for three months by the FECAFOOT Executive Committee, a decision he called illegal.
