Cooperation between Cameroon and Germany continues with a mission focused on sustainable development in the North Region. Knut Gummert, head of the German Cooperation in Cameroon, met with administrative officials and technical partners to discuss conservation and sustainable development strategies.
Gummert's visit to the North Region began with a meeting with Joseph Densou, Secretary-General of the Governor's services, representing the Governor. This meeting brought together staff from the regional administration, technical partners and NGO representatives. Discussions focused on critical issues such as strengthening the management of protected areas and coordinating efforts to address environmental challenges.
A central point was the implementation of cross-border commitments, including the anti-poaching protocol. Participants stressed the importance of intensifying sub-regional cooperation to counter the illegal trafficking of wild species and preserve biodiversity.
Following the institutional exchanges, the ambassador went into the field to assess projects funded by German cooperation in the region. These initiatives aim to support local development, sustainable resource management and the improvement of people's living conditions.
The working visit concluded with a press conference where the orientations and perspectives of German-Cameroonian cooperation in the North were clarified. Germany is one of Cameroon's main partners in development aid. This cooperation is reflected in various projects focused on biodiversity protection, rural development and good governance. Relations between Cameroon and Germany are described as "good" by the German Foreign Office, highlighting a shared history and a positive perception due to Germany's commitment to the country's development.
