Former Cameroonian defender Geremi Njitap has expressed his belief in André Onana's potential return to Manchester United. Despite leaving Manchester United in September 2025 to join Turkish club Trabzonspor, following the arrival of Senne Lammens, Onana reportedly hasn't given up on his dream of playing at Old Trafford again.
According to sources close to the English club, the Cameroonian goalkeeper could make his return to Manchester as early as the pre-season. The final decision regarding his future will largely depend on the club's next permanent manager, although current coach Michael Carrick could also play a role in this choice.
Geremi Njitap, who played for Chelsea and Real Madrid, told Telecom Asia that he firmly believes in Onana's ability to bounce back. "Listen, I know André very well and during his time at United, there were many things that weren't right. He wasn't the only one. And believe me, with the arrival of Michael Carrick, the situation looks favorable for everyone, including him," he stated.
The former Cameroonian international emphasized his compatriot's exceptional qualities: "He is undeniably talented and his gifts are rare. The next step for him is to go back there and fight for his place. André has always excelled when faced with challenges. He thrives when given a fair chance to prove himself".
Geremi also highlighted the importance of competition within major European clubs. "During my career, I enjoyed playing in teams with great ambitions and strong personalities. If I had a few bad games, there was always someone knocking on the manager's door asking for a chance. That meant I had to stand up, make myself heard and not back down".
The battle for the goalkeeper position at Manchester United could therefore be reignited, with Lammens' rise and Onana's determination to get back in the race. A situation that promises to be one of the most followed storylines of the next pre-season.
In the meantime, André Onana continues to play for Trabzonspor, where he will try to regain his best form in order to convince Manchester United's management to give him another chance.
