The funeral of Georges Anicet Ékanè, a political figure and patriarch of the Pongo canton who passed away on December 1, 2025, will be held from May 6 to 9, 2026, in Douala and Bomono Gare. The family and customary authorities have developed a program that includes moments of reflection, a public tribute, and traditional rites, reflecting the importance of his role and legacy.

The ceremonies will begin on Wednesday, May 6, in Douala, with a moment of reflection and the presentation of condolences at the Akwa community hall from 7:30 PM. On Thursday, May 7, at the same location and time, a tribute evening is planned, offering a time of public recognition for the man his relatives considered a comrade in the struggle and a family landmark.

On Friday, May 8, the funeral will continue in Bomono Gare with a cultural evening from 7:30 PM. This move to his native village underscores the importance of his roots and his attachment to the community that saw him grow.

Saturday, May 9, will mark the culmination of the funeral. The placing in the coffin and the removal of the body will take place at 7 a.m. at the Laquintinie Hospital in Douala, followed by the transfer to Bomono Gare for burial. The burial site, located at the place called Maison 504, about 500 meters after the entrance to the village coming from Douala towards Nkongsamba, was chosen for its sobriety and respect.

The organization of these funeral services is ensured by the senior chief of the Pongo canton, the local traditional authorities, the allied families, and the deceased's wife, Jeanne Edwige Sogue. Leaders of the political families for change are also associated with this tribute, testifying to the influence of Georges Anicet Ékanè beyond his family. Born on April 17, 1951, Georges Anicet Ékanè leaves behind the image of a committed politician and a respected notable.
