The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is intensifying its commitment to Gabon with the upcoming opening of an office in Libreville. This initiative aims to boost its investments in the Gabonese private sector, where its current portfolio amounts to approximately $350 million.

The local establishment will enable the IFC to strengthen its collaboration with the Gabonese authorities, ensure more rigorous monitoring of ongoing projects, and more rapidly identify new investment opportunities. This increased presence demonstrates the IFC's desire to play a key role in Gabon's economic development by supporting local businesses and attracting foreign investment.

The IFC has already made significant investments in Gabon, particularly in the sustainable palm oil sector with Olam Palm Gabon. In March 2023, the IFC implemented $350 million in financing for Olam Palm Gabon, including $150 million from its own funds. These investments contribute not only to economic growth but also to the diversification of the Gabonese economy, traditionally dependent on oil.

Across Africa, the IFC announced record investments of $14.2 billion in fiscal year 2023-2024, demonstrating its commitment to supporting the private sector on the continent. These funds are allocated to key sectors such as trade finance, small business growth, digital connectivity and climate resilience. The IFC also plays an advisory role for African companies, helping them improve their governance, environmental practices and social performance.

The opening of this office in Libreville marks a new stage in the partnership between Gabon and the IFC, promising new opportunities for the private sector and sustainable economic growth.
